Buy a bone for $100 for a chance to win: first prize, $3,000; second, $1,500; or third, $500. Bones are dropped from a lift onto a target below with the three bones landing closest to the center winning prizes. Prize money will be rewarded contingent upon selling 150 bones. Democratic Party reorganization convention
The Franklin County Democratic Party biennial reorganization convention to elect new leaders is Aug. 21. Doors open for registration at 10:30 a.m. at the Franklin County Annex Large Conference Room on Dinah Shore Boulevard in Winchester. Local Democrats will elect a chair, three vice chairs, a secretary, a treasurer and the executive committee members from all voting districts of the county for a two-year term. All Democrats who are residents of Franklin County and who are registered voters are urged to attend to discuss the party’s agenda and events for 2021-2022. Back to School Splash Boat Parade
The City of Winchester invites everyone to their Back to School Splash Boat Parade Aug. 21 starting at 5 p.m. at Tims Ford Bass Club in Winchester City Park. The parade will end around 6:30 p.m. with a concert at the Red Roof Pavilion. The theme is “Show your Football Spirit.” Prizes will be awarded for best decorated in personal watercraft, fishing boats, cruisers, pontoons and deck boats, wake boats, houseboats and yachts. The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host a poker run on Tims Ford Lake Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 per hand. Participants collect cards from the following marinas: Twin Creeks Marina, Holiday Landing Marina, Tims Ford Marina and Tims Ford Bass Club to complete a five-card poker hand with a $500 cash payout for the best hand and also a worst-hand prize. The Multi-County Cancer Support Network’s annual walk-a-thon to raise money to help support area cancer patients is set for Sept. 10 at the old football stadium on Dinah Shore Boulevard in Winchester.
